Tires are a popular item to recycle because of the wide variety of uses they can offer once they're given new life. Besides fuel, a few of these new uses can include being turned into hot-melt asphalt pavement, flooring, crumb rubber modifier, playground equipment, and artificial turf.

Rubberized asphalt concrete (commonly known as RAC) is a road paving material made by blending ground-up recycled tires with asphalt to produce a binder which is then mixed with conventional aggregate materials. This mix is then placed and compacted into a road surface.

The rubber tyre recycling process often begins at the dealer's, when you bring in your car to have the old, worn-out tyres replaced. You can also take your tyres to a tyre recycling plant, or household waste recycling centres. However, there may be a limit to how many you can take, and you may also be charged.
